The dartboard approach
29 September 2025 by rawmeatcowboy 1Not that long ago, Bandai Namco pledged to revisit various entries in the “Tales of” series in order to craft remakes and remasters. They’ve stayed true to their word on that front, but the way in which they pick titles to be remastered seems to be completely random. Now we finally have some insight into how titles are chosen for the remaster treatment.
At a TGS 2025 panel, Tales of IP general producer Yusuke Tomizawa said that remastered games in the series as they were originally released isn’t as easy as you might thing, and it all has to do with the original source code and the teams that worked on each title.

[Tales of IP general producer Yusuke Tomizawa]“We have to start by finding out where the source code is and who’s managing it. It’s a bit embarrassing, but since there were multiple different development studios working on the series over the years, we have to find the original data first. And when we do find it, it can be full of gaps, which takes months of analysis to deal with. …Honestly, I know some fans out there may be thinking What’s with the release order?”
With this being the case, Tomizawa shared that Bandai Namco is tackling multiple Tales of remaster projects at once. The team looks at what they can achieve and how quickly, and then that dictates which titles get bumped to the front of the line.
