Fancy another trip back to the colourful world of Gobbo Valley? Croc 2 Kingdom of the Gobbos brings Argonaut Games’ 1999 3D platforming sequel back to life, with an updated presentation and more than 40 levels of crocodile-led adventure.

Available now on Xbox Series X|S for £24.99, this remaster gives Croc another chance to charm a new generation, while offering those who remember the original a sizeable dose of nostalgia.

At A Glance

  • Game: Croc 2 Kingdom of the Gobbos
  • Developer: Titanium Studios
  • Publisher: Argonaut Games
  • Platform: Xbox Series X|S
  • Price: £24.99
  • Genre: 3D Platformer

A Message In A Bottle Sends Croc On A New Adventure

Croc’s latest adventure begins with a discovery on the beach. A bottle washes ashore containing a message revealing that his birth parents are searching for him, prompting the little crocodile to set off for the mainland.

Unfortunately, there are bigger problems waiting. The Dantinis have resurrected the villainous Baron Dante, and he has revenge on his mind following his previous defeat at Croc’s hands.

The journey takes players through four distinct villages, each with its own personality and Gobbo culture: Sailor Village, Cossack Village, Caveman Village, and Inca Village.

Along the way, Croc must rescue captured Gobbos, complete missions and confront a collection of unusual Guardians, including Soveena the Squid, Cannon Boat Keith and Flavio the Thermal Fish.

More Than Just Jumping And Tail-Spinning

Croc’s familiar moves return, but there’s a new triple jump to help reach greater heights. The adventure also mixes up its platforming with a variety of vehicles and other activities, including cars, speedboats, minecarts, hang gliders and even an airplane.

Across more than 40 levels, players can explore open-ended 3D environments, tackle puzzles and collect crystals to spend at Swap Meet Pete’s General Store. The enterprising cat also offers a Crystal Ball that can teleport Croc between villages, making it easier to get around the mainland.

Beyond the updated visuals and presentation, Croc 2 includes the Croc2pedia, a digital museum dedicated to the game’s development. This brings together original design documents, marketing materials, promotional merchandise, animation tests and galleries of character, level and item models – including content that never made it into the finished game.

Interviews with members of the original Argonaut team and the remaster’s developers provide another look behind the scenes.

Another Trip Back To The Gobbos

Croc’s return follows the remaster of the original Croc Legend of the Gobbos, which we revisited in our 2025 review. Awarding that release 3.5/5, we noted that it remained a faithful recreation of a childhood favourite, even if its platforming quirks were still present.

We also explored our own complicated history with the series in My Love-Hate Relationship With Croc: Legend Of The Gobbos.

Now Croc 2 gets its opportunity to return, bringing a different adventure, new locations and plenty of familiar platforming action. At £24.99 on Xbox Series X|S, downloadable from the Xbox Store, it’s another chance to revisit a much-loved era of 3D platformers – just don’t be surprised if those old-school challenges test your patience along the way.
