The crunchy retro-shooter Selaco is about to get a massive content update with Selaco Chapter 2: The Machines of War releasing November 13th.
I'm seriously pumped for this, the first part was excellent, and I'm really looking forward to seeing not just more of it, but all the improvements they've done for the game as a whole - because there's a lot. The announcement goes over the main highlights which we have copied below to save you a click. They said to expect the full changelog and a new trailer when it launches.
Here's the main highlights:
Key HighlightsCampaign and Story
- 19 New Campaign Maps: Roughly 6-8 hours of additional content.
- Expanded Story: More story content and more voiced characters, including Dawn herself.
- On The Run: An unstoppable machine is hunting you down. Chapter 2's levels are faster and more relentless than ever, taking you to places Selaco has never shown before.
- Companion: For a portion of Chapter 2, Dawn has an ally fighting alongside her. Prefer to play solo? Tell the companion to stay put!
- Remastered Chapter 1: We gave the whole game an additional pass with improved lighting, improved setpieces, new surprises and more.
Combat
- New Enemies: Skirmishers, Tanks, Incinerators, and a whole bunch of other units.
- New Weapons: Including a Minigun, a Heavy Machine Gun that fires literal explosions, a JETPACK(!) and plenty more.
- Heavy Ordnance System: Grab heavy weapons on the battlefield for a burst in firepower, then ditch them when they run dry.
- New Deployables: Sentinel Drones, Mini-Turrets, Mobile Cover, and more.
- New Weapon Kits: Dragon's Breath, Storm Shield, Cluster Grenades and more, plus reworked existing kits.
- Passive Upgrades: Acquire Supplements to gain an edge in combat and exploration, granting you access to new utility in the late-game.
Smarter Enemies
- Overhauled AI: Rewritten almost entirely from scratch with smarter tactics, better decision-making, improved pathing, and a new Rally system.
- Patrols: Enemies now patrol their territory, making encounters feel more natural and letting you sneak around and choose when the fight begins. Ambushes still happen, but won't make up the bulk of the campaign anymore.
- TONS of new Soldier VO: Luis Bermudez is back to voice the enemy soldiers, with a huge batch of new callouts, banter and personality.
Presentation & Optimization
- Brand-New Lighting System: Baked lighting and shadows result in richer visuals and better performance.
- Particle System v2: An even more optimized Particle System... Again! Allows for more on-screen chaos with much less of an FPS hit.
- Asset Streaming: A (much-needed) streaming system keeps VRAM usage way down, so the game can keep growing without eating up your graphics card's memory. General VRAM usage has dropped 19%.
- MORE MAYHEM! Reworked sound, visual effects and explosions. The combat spectacle you know and love has never looked (or sounded!) better.
Systems & Quality of Life
- Improved Navigation: Clearer guidance and navigation assistance that still respects our focus on exploration and player trust.
- FOMO Begone: Not finding a Weapon Kit no longer means permanently missing out on a new tool to play with. Any Weapon Kits you've missed can now be bought in Safe Rooms (This excludes ultra-secret weapon kits.).
- Expanded Mutator System: Tons of new mutators, including Companion Mode and Random Encounters. You can now adjust Mutators mid-game in Safe Rooms!*.
- Weapon Kit Swapping: Each weapon can now carry two Weapon Kits at once, and you can switch between them freely during combat.
- Improved Pacing: Hunting down every secret used to keep players stuck in a single map for hours. Secrets are no longer required for 100% completion and are no longer tracked at the Intermission. 100% now only requires Upgrades, Weapon Kits and Datapads. Prefer the old way? Turn on the optional Completionist mutator.
- Reworked Special Campaign: New features, an improved spawning system, and full support for Chapter 2 additions, so you can play the entire campaign with all the new content available from the start.
- Reworked Systems: Invasion Tier manipulation, improved Safe Rooms, a brand-new Requisition Menu and more.
- Responsive Controls: Dawn's movement abilities have been moved over to a new scripting system, making the entire game feel much snappier than before. Trust us, coming from Chapter 1, you will notice immediately once you start sliding around.
- New Music: Fresh tracks for Chapter 2, and the Original Soundtrack DLC gets the new tracks added for free.
