Dimensional Animals has arrived, bringing a colourful retro platforming adventure to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One alongside PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. At the centre of it all is Bingo the dog, who has a rather important mission – finding his missing play ball so he can get back to his human companion.
Bingo is joined by Scott the cat, Fidget the duck, Papo the frog and Tucker the raccoon, with each animal bringing their own abilities to a sprawling interconnected world. You’ll need to swap between them regularly if you’re going to get past the game’s traps, obstacles and enemies.

Five Friends, Five Different Skill Sets
The big idea behind Dimensional Animals is that no single character can do everything. Each of the five animal friends has their own special abilities, and switching between them on the fly is an important part of navigating the adventure.
You’ll run and jump through the environment, interact with objects, avoid traps and pounce on enemies, but the real challenge comes from working out which character is best suited to whatever is in front of you.
That gives the side-scrolling platformer a little more depth than simply getting from one side of a level to the other. A seemingly inaccessible route might become available once you’ve figured out how to use one of your animal companions properly.
A World Full Of Portals And Secrets
The adventure takes place across a massive interconnected map, with portals providing access to new areas as you explore.
There’s plenty of reason to go looking beyond the obvious route too. Up to 50 hidden diamonds and 25 health orbs are scattered throughout the world, encouraging players to poke around in corners and investigate areas that might otherwise be ignored.
Dimensional Animals isn’t sticking to one particular setting either. The journey takes the group across beaches, mountains, waterworks and other landscapes, all presented in a retro pixel-art style. The emphasis on exploration means the different environments aren’t simply backdrops. Finding new skills and working out how to reach previously inaccessible areas forms part of the wider adventure, giving the interconnected map a reason to be explored rather than simply crossed.
And then there’s Bingo’s ball.
A Simple Mission With Plenty Of Platforming
For all the dimensional travelling and five-character teamwork, the reason for Bingo’s adventure is a simple one. His ball has gone missing, and recovering it is the key to getting back to his human companion.
With five playable animals, character swapping, portals, hidden collectibles and a retro presentation, Dimensional Animals looks set to offer a cheerful platforming adventure with plenty of opportunities for exploration. The question is whether Bingo and his friends can make it through the various dimensions in one piece – and, more importantly, whether that ball is ever coming home.
