Divine Frequency is a new GZDoom / UZDoom powered FPS fever dream, one where you get to experience the total collapse of reality. Something like that anyway, I haven't the faintest idea what's going on right now - apart from going to sleep and having something intercept my dreams, where it turns into some sort of survival FPS with a heavy use of screen effects. Note: this was a personal purchase.

It makes an interesting first impression - because I do really like just how wild it is. But, they definitely need to tone down some of the effects. Especially so in the intro sequence before you really get into the game. It's eye-strain city. It's not quite as bad in the area after you first sleep though, but still quite heavy on the eyes.
Amazing atmosphere though, Divine Frequency is one of the creepiest feeling games I've played in quite some time. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up a good few times, made me jump a little too - but it's not a game that relies on jump scares. It's the thick atmosphere that really gets you, as you explore all the corridors wondering what's going to happen next. An odd mixture of classic Doom blended with a little System Shock and Silent Hill.
Since it's using some form of GZDoom / UZDoom, you might even be able to pull it into a native install of the engine. As currently it only has a Windows version to run via Proton 11 on Steam (where it does play just fine).
Key Features- Weird, Uncanny Worlds - Dive through layers of ever-mounting darkness. Discover secrets, brave optional encounters, and piece together the story of the world before you. Break through the thin glass of the ordinary into unstable realities beyond the Perimeter.
- A Particular Narrative - Not everything is out to get you. Discover a deep and surreal tale of cosmic horror, existential conundrums, and off-kilter characters. When you stare into the abyss, the abyss more often than not maniacally cackles back.
- Visceral Combat - Exterminate grotesque and malevolent lifeforms with an arsenal of devastating firepower. Unleash strange psionic attacks to dominate your foes. But be ready, for your enemies are equally capable of tearing you apart.
- Deep Character System - Divine Frequency offers three primary character archetypes and a variety of weapon modifications, letting you commit to or mix them to your taste. The game will react accordingly to your choices, and present unique challenges and discoveries for each.
- Optional Elite Boss Encounters - Challenge the Meso-Divinities of the World. Confront your adversary in tense arena duels that require consistent timing and execution.
I'm going to reserve any final judgement for it when it releases in full. But it's a very interesting start for it in Early Access. If you like shooters that blend in elements of horror, survival and exploration in a world that's a fractured freaky mess - it may be for you.
