A Snail’s Tale is like walking down memory lane if you played 90s JRPGs during the 90s. Retreaux Games is bringing the turn-based adventure to PC and Nintendo Switch on November 11th, which is soon. The title mixes old-school combat and cosy activities.
An immortal snail is the source of everyone’s problems
A Snail’s Tale follows Samson Spligglebarp, a noble descendant of a famous historian who’s itching to make a name for himself. His journey takes him to the Halite Kingdom, where he enters King Phillippe’s challenge for a chance to become a Halite Warrior. But the King is being pursued by an immortal snail that refuses to stop until he’s destroyed.
There are five character classes in the game. The Codwalloper is a physical fighter who specialises in attacking enemies with dead fish. The Souschef cooks enemies and turns them into items. The Scrounger is a survivalist, while Rinkydink is a parlour magician. And then there’s the Oilist, an essential oils salesperson.
The Codwalloper is special because it’s a fish-based fighter who comes with a fixed weapon that can’t be removed: the Cod itself. The Cod’s power scales with the character’s level.
Combat takes place in classic side-view battles, with 90s-inspired pixel art and unconventional weaponry. You get golf clubs, foam rollers, and projectile fish. There’s also the ZEST combat system, which lets you charge up a ZEST metre during battles and activate it to give a character a massive temporary boost.
A Snail’s Tale has plenty of other stuff to do, too!
The game includes an idle quest system, fishing, dojo battle gauntlets, and other cosy activities. The world inside the game is equal parts funny and mysterious, with eccentric characters, bizarre situations, and plenty of absurd fantasy comedy. Take a look!
A Snail’s Tale launches on Steam and Nintendo Switch on November 11 for $12.99 on both platforms, with a 10% launch discount on Steam.
