Bethesda doubles down on Fallout remasters following Microsoft “reset

A Fallout 3 remaster and a Fallout New Vegas remaster are coming.

Bethesda has announced Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas remasters following the news that Microsoft would lay off 3,200 Xbox employees and work towards an (unattainable) goal of engaging 1 billion active players each day.

“We also know many players want to revisit previous Fallout experiences,” Bethesda said in a new blog. “While we’re not announcing any dates today, we have been working on remasters for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.”

The company also confirmed that Fallout 5 is a ways away, entering pre-production.

The statement comes after a statement from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma that insisted the company would “focus on higher priority projects” rather than smaller projects. It’s believed this means Xbox will focus on its established IP, such as Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Gears of War, Halo, Minecraft, and more.

“I want Xbox to be one of the few companies that entertains more than a billion people each day and gives everyone the opportunity to create and connect,” Sharma added in that same statement, like directed at shareholders. “I know we can achieve this goal.”

New Vegas original developer Obsidian has since confirmed it has shifted its focus to a new Fallout game rather than Avowed 2, though a skeleton crew is now working on the latter.
